About Us

City Church Sheffield exists to Know Jesus, Show Jesus, and Share Jesus — in our city, our nation, and the world. We’re a diverse family of believers who want to see Sheffield transformed by the good news of Jesus Christ. Our mission is not simply to run meetings or maintain programmes, but to build a community that lives out the gospel in everyday life.

Our strategy flows from this conviction:

Building the Church – strengthening discipleship, worship, and community life
Blessing the City – serving Sheffield through compassion, partnership, and practical love
Bringing the Gospel… – supporting mission locally and globally so others can encounter Jesus

We long to be a church that makes His name known, not our own — a people empowered by the Word and Spirit, bringing the kingdom wherever we are.

Beliefs

We hold to the historic, orthodox Christian faith expressed in the Evangelical Alliance Basis of Faith, which you can read here. Our beliefs shape our life together and our commitment to a Christian ethos that is biblical, Spirit?led, and centred on Jesus.

We believe:

The Bible is God’s inspired Word and our final authority for faith and life.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully human and fully divine, who died and rose again to bring salvation to all who believe.
The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live holy lives and to serve others with love and courage.
The Church is God’s people — His bride and His hands and feet in the world — called to worship, witness, and work for His glory.
Every person is made in God’s image and invited into relationship with Him through Jesus.

Our Story

Previously Walkley Baptist Church and based in Walkley, City Church Sheffield moved to the Jubilee Centre in Hunters Bar and began with a simple desire: to see a vibrant, Spirit?filled church that reaches Sheffield with the love of Jesus. Over the years, we’ve grown into a community of people from many backgrounds and generations, united by faith and friendship. From our earliest days, we’ve believed that church is not a building or a Sunday event — it’s a family on mission together. We’ve seen God’s faithfulness as we’ve gathered for worship, served our neighbourhoods, and partnered with others across the city. Our story continues to be one of grace, growth, and shared adventure as we seek to follow Jesus and bless Sheffield.

This gets worked out in our Sunday meetings, our kids and youth work, our community projects, and through our members looking to love others and share their faith in everyday life.

Leaders

In the Bible we see elders are appointed to lead churches. They are also called shepherds or overseers and are given the task to look after and oversee all that happens in their church. At City Church we have five elders from all different walks of life.

We also have committed and faith-filled leaders who look after different areas of church life including our Under 5s, primary school age, youth, students, and projects to help serve the people of Sheffield.

Partner Organisations

We value working with others and get help and input from a variety of different places. This includes Christ Central Churches, Newfrontiers and Welcome Churches. We are also affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance and registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission.
